Eastern Mediterranean Cruises

Going on an Eastern Mediterranean cruise is your pass to memorable excursions in Croatia, Greece and the Greek Islands, Italy and Turkey. Many of the eastern Mediterranean cruises start and/or end in Italy, usually in Venice or Rome (Civitavecchia). Venice and Rome are fantastic cities in which to extend your trip an extra 2-4 days, and nearly all of the cruise lines have land packages for cruise passengers that are all-inclusive or include at least your hotel and meals. In Venice, enjoy a gondola ride in the famed canals after a tour of St. Mark's Basilica. Shore excursions in Rome may include a visit to the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum or a tour of Vatican City. Other European cruise ports in Italy are the island of Sardinia along the Emerald Coast; the city of Naples, overlooked by Mount Vesuvius; and the magical island of Capri. While in Naples, don't miss the short trip to Pompeii to the excavation of this famed lost city. A stop in Livorna will allow you access to Pisa to visit the famous Leaning Tower, and Florence, where you can visit the famed Medici family art collection at Palazzo Pitti.

Western Mediterranean Cruises

Western Mediterranean cruises is the stuff dreams are made of. Immerse yourself in the romance of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Cruising is a perfect way to see the French Riviera. The picturesque ports along the Cote d'Azur are situated very close together, and are the subject of many paintings by Matisse, Picasso and Renoir. Villefranche-sur-Mer is a quaint town also in the Cote d'Azur region of the south of France, and a popular port of call on many European cruise itineraries. A European cruise in the western Mediterranean often includes a stop in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. For a great view of the city, take the wrought iron Elevator de Santa Justa.

Greek Isles Cruises

A European cruise itinerary with destinations in Greece, Turkey and the Black Sea will take you on a journey back in time, to lands steeped in history. Is a trip to the Parthenon on your "must see" list? Near Athens, Greece, this iconic ruin is part of an amazing collection of Greek history that is the Acropolis. Perhaps the Greek Islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Patmos, Rhodes, and the island of Cyprus hold more allure for you. A stop in Corinth gives you access to the Corinth canal, which connects the Ionian and Aegean seas. Cruise itineraries in Greece often stop in Katakolon, home of the first Olympic stadium and the Temple of Zeus, one of the Wonders of the Ancient World. No southern European cruise would be complete without a trip to Turkey's main city, Istanbul. Ships dock in the Bosphorus, a 20-mile stretch of water separating Asia and Europe, lined with wooden villa-like structures, palaces and mosques. Black Sea cruises include ports of call in Yalta, Odessa in the Ukraine, and in Nessebur, Bulgaria. In Yalta, walk the seaside promenade and visit the famous neo-gothic castles.

British Isles Cruises

A European cruise in the British Isles takes you through the mystical green shores of the United Kingdom. In England and Scotland, exciting cities like London and Glasgow offer a vibrant nightlife, rich history and hundreds of art and culture opportunities. The largest city in Europe, London (Dover) is an exciting and diverse European cruise destination, with endless shore excursion activities. Visit the United Kingdom's iconic structures such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. In Scotland, make sure to disembark at the port of Leith, as it allows you access to the city of Edinburgh. The United Kingdom's "must-see" stops in Edinburgh include Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and the Royal Museum of Scotland. Edinburgh's Royal Mile takes you back in time as you wind through its four medieval streets.

Northern Europe Cruises

Northern European cruise itineraries with destinations in the area of the Baltic Sea take you on a voyage through the striking lands of Estonia, Russia, Finland and Sweden. Estonia's capital of Tallinn is located directly across from Helsinki, Finland, so most northern European cruises will stop at both ports. While in Tallinn, visit the Alexander Nevskiy Cathedral and Toompea Castle in the Old City for two very different styles of architecture; the former built by the Russian Czar, and the later evidence of Tallinn's ancient and medieval history. You may be temped to spend days in St. Petersburg, partaking in delicious Russian food and exploring the many cathedrals, historical sites and public buildings. The Church of the Spilled Blood has a dark name, but the building is a spectacular site. The city of Stockholm is a marriage of modern Swedish design and medieval architecture, with literally dozens of delightful shore excursion possibilities. Museums abound, and some are so unique, you won't want to miss them. For example, the Skansen Open Air Museum showcases life in historic Sweden, the Vasa Museum features the renovations of famous capsized ships, and the Steppsholmen and Modern Museum is your chance to view Swedish modern art.

Norwegian Fjords Cruises

Cruises to the Norwegian Fjords are in a category of their own. A series of inlets in western Norway, are made up of both lush and snow-capped mountains, and glaciers. Your cruise through Norway's fjords will center on the city of Bergen, where many of the smaller ships begin their route to the Kirkenes. While in Bergen, find your way to Borgund Stave Church, one of the most unusual medieval churches in Norway. Cruising the fjords will take you through picturesque villages like Hellesyit, Geiranjer and Bear Island.
